Prototyping Reflections

Our prototyping is so far taking two forms: one as a splash page for our sustainability rewards program, and the other as a way to role play as a Delta consumer navigating the new program. So far, our splash page has been fully fleshed out and we’ve gotten key feedback on how we’re presenting our idea and making it well-understandable for the potential consumer: it was eye-opening to hear about our idea through how someone else saw it; we realized what we needed to add to the website to make it more understandable to people who hadn’t been working on the project all semester.

Prototyping might end up as one of the more difficult portions of the project, since it took us time to figure out how to accurately convey the experience of making more sustainable choices with the updated loyalty program. In the end, we decided on a game where each player will take on a pre-picked persona and help them get to where they need to go or complete some objective by making one of two choices. There isn’t a set right or wrong answer for either, but there is a more sustainable choice amongst the two that we’re curious to see if people pick. If people do pick the more sustainable choice, it could mean we’ve incentivized it well–and while a website is great to test if people understand the concept…it’s not quite enough to test if people will use the program willingly.

I’ll be excited to get even more feedback from our peers and others in class and on Friday; I’ll be excited to find out if we need to change aspects of our rewards program, or if a rewards program even has a tangible affect on how people make choices in regards to flying behavior. It’s always fun to put our ideas to the test.
